Glossary of terms:
Amenity Horticulture is the design and construction
of recreational areas, these might be parks, nature reserves, wildlife gardens
or road verges.
Production Horticulture is all about the growing
of vegetables, fruit, herbs and plants from small scale to large scale production.
Land based operations includes skills such
as tree felling, habitat management, coppicing, footpath construction, hedgelaying,
drainage work and fencing.
Environmental Conservation may involve the conservation of rural
and urban landscapes, natural heritage, birds, animals and plants, countryside
recreation or waterway conservation.
National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ’s)
are work related competence based qualifications that allow you to gain
the skills and knowledge to show you can do a job effectively. They are
recognized by many employers throughout the country.
City and Guilds (C&G) are vocational training
qualifications designed to encourage education and training in, and for,
the work place.
Open College Network (OCN) provides qualifications in a wide range
of subject areas. OCN aims to promote social inclusion by widening participation
and access to high quality and flexible education, training and learning.
