School for Environment wants to open up training and
employment opportunities to Black and Ethnic Minority communities in Sheffield.

SHEBEEN stands
for Sheffield Black and Ethnic Minority Environmental Network. Traditionally
many environmental organizations have been dominated by the white community,
meaning that black and ethnic communities feel they will not be welcome. We
exist to challenge this and open the door for communities to get involved
in environmental opportunities of all kinds, both within Sheffield and beyond.
We do this by:
• Disseminating information about
opportunities in a personalized and pro-active way
• Supporting BME community groups and individuals
with environmental projects
• Encouraging and advising environmental
organizations on how to reach out to BME people more effectively

The Peak District National Park Authority is actively seeking to attract applicants
from minority ethnic communities and those who perceive themselves to be disabled.
The Equality Outreach Project has been developed to focus on this area of
work. It hopes to foster and develop relationships with minority ethnic communities
and disability organisations in Sheffield to raise the profile of the authority
as an employer and the types of employment, work experience, work shadowing
and volunteering opportunities available.
We are currently in the process of updating our website to show a number of
career and volunteering options within the Authority and links to our Partner
organisations.
Our work experience and work shadowing opportunities are open to all age groups,
so please do not hesitate to contact us or visit our website at www.peakdistrict.gov.uk.
